Georgia (Georgian: საქართველო, [sɑkʰɑrtʰvɛlɔ] Sakartvelo) is located in Transcaucasia, on the eastern coast of the Black Sea. Georgia with all the countries in the world, except Russia and several other countries, consider a number of regions to be occupied and included in the territory of Georgia. They are Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which are recognized independent by Russia and some other countries. The territory controlled by the Georgian government borders with Abkhazia in the west and with South Ossetia in the north. Georgia borders also with Russia in the north, with Turkey and Armenia in the south and with Azerbaijan in the south-east. Georgia is an intercontinental country located generally in Asia and partly in Europe. Georgia has been a member of the Council of Europe since the 27th of April, 1999.

The population of Georgia is multinational. The majority of the population (69%) is Georgians. Armenians make the 9 % of the population of Georgia, living generally in Tbilisi (it has been the cultural center of eastern Armenians), in Javakhk and Abkhazia. Many people settled in Kakheti. In Georgia live also Russians, Azerbaijanis, Abkhazians, Adjarians, Greeks, Ossetians, Kurds and other nations.
Georgia is an industrial-agrarian country with a medium level of development. Its economy has many branches. The value of the industrial production considerably exceeds the agricultural one. The spheres of service and trade are also developed in Georgia. In USSR Georgia was known as a country producing black metals, cars, chemical materials, construction materials and products of subtropical agriculture.
