Shirak
Shirak is located in the North-West. It borders with Turkey in the west and with Georgia in the north by the state border, in the east it borders with the region Lori and with the region Aragatsotn in the south.
Vayots Dzor
The region of Vayots Dzor borders with the regions of Ararat, Gegharkunik and Syunik, as well as with NKR and the Autonomous Republic of Nakhijevan. Vayots Dzor region includes the former administrative territories of Yeghegnadzor and Vayk.
Syunik
Syunik region borders with Iran in the west (in Nakhijevan) and Karabakh in the east and with the region of Vayots Dzor in the north.
Lori
Lori is located in the north of Armenia. It is the third region by its sizes with the regional center Vanadzor.
Tavush
Tavush region includes the provinces and parts of the provinces of the four worlds.
Ararat
Ararat is one of the regions of Armenia. The regional center is the city Artashat. The territory is 2096km². The lowest point of the territory is near thechannel of the river Araks-801m. The highest one is the pick of the mountain Spitakavor in the north-east -3555,7m. Only the 30% of its territory is valley. The big rivers of the region are Araks, Hrazdan, Azat, Vedi. Ararat region is one of the most economically developed regions in Armenia.
Armavir
Armavir is the smallist within the regions of Armenia. Here is the only road-bridge built in the middle part of the stream of Araks (near the village Margara) which connects RA and Turkey. The regional center is the town Armavir.
Aragatsotn region
Aragatsotn is one of the regions of Armenia formed in April 2, 1995. Its center is Ashtarak city. Aragatsotn region descended its name from the province of Aragatsotn of the historical Airarat world. Its territory is 2.753km, population – 141 thousand. In the rank of RA regions it takes up a middle place by its size and exceeds only Vayots Dzor and Tavush regions by the population. An important specifity of the geographical location of this region is that it is situated between the capital Yerevan and the highest mountain pick of RA Aragats.
Kotayk
Kotayk is one of the regions of Armenia. The regional center is Hrazdan. The armenian skiing sport center Tsakhkadzor is located in Kotayk region. This region is mountainous and it’s the only region which doesn’t have a state border. Here is located the plant of mineral waters Bjni and the source of mineral water with the same name.
Gegharkunik
Gegharkunik is the biggest region of RA by its territory. The regional center is Gavar. It has been founded in 1830 by the armenians migrated from the town Bayazet of the western Armenia, in the place of the historical Gavarakan. During the Soviet power the town has been called Nor Bayazet, then- Kamo. In this region you can meet pre-urartian and urartian period fortresses, habitats, ancient places, cuneiform records, etc. There have also been discovered tombs of around 5 thousand years old. The lake Sevan is wholly located in Gegharkunik region. The second town of the region is Sevan (former Yelenovka) founded in the first half of the XIX century by the sectarians banished from central Russia.
NKR
The Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh has been declared independent since December 10, 1991, but its independence wasn’t recognized internationally.
